Attacked by Arthuritis!

Hi Everyone,
I'm not very well . As you will know I got Cushinged many years ago and I have to take tablets - I don't like doing it but they scare the Cushings away so make me decushinged so that's good. But now I seem to have been attached by ArthurItis! Emma got very worried cos I was doing a lot of panting and shaking and cos some weeks ago my dear vet Nicki told us I had a heart murmur, she thought it was my heart and she got very scared and took me to see Nicki straight away. It wasn't my heart. I like to follow my humans up and down stairs so that I can be with them all the time but my back legs seem to have stopped working so I can't bounce up and down each stair like I used to. Nicki said Arthuritis has stolen my muscles! Well she said something else but that's what I realise she meant. I have lost weight on my bum and now and then when I'm standing I just fall into sitting cos my back legs don't work. It's not very nice and it hurts so that's why I have been panting and shaking. And now and then I yelp when something hurts when my humans try to pick me up, but I try not to cos I want them to carry me . Nicki gave me something called metacam. It's not a nasty pill that tastes horrible if you chew it by mistake, but it's like sweet water and I can have it on my food. Emma is saying it's Miracle Medicine cos it does make me a lot better and it must have told Arthuritis to stop being painful. Here's me feeling poorly and then me happily sleeping on Emma's lap after I'd had my metacam.

My problems are cos I'm an old dog. And they're not very nice but really I am very lucky as I don't have anything very, very bad. Some of my dear humans have had the really bad thing cancer and they were looked after Macmillan Nurses so I've set up a page to raise money for themhttps://www.facebook.com/TedTerrierMacMillan . Please do go there and bid on nice things or donate some money.
Lots of love and licks, Ted Terrier XOX

What's That Autumn Thing?

A little while ago I told you about being Autumned. Then this got dropped in front of me by Autumn and I want to know "What's That?" Will it move? Can I chase it? Or can I eat it? Or chew it? Or lick it? Or poke it with my nose? Is it part of a game? Or should I run away? Or do my whirly welcoming dance for it? Please tell me if you know :) Love n Licks Ted Terrier XOX

Autumn Ted

This morning I was minding my own business - rather than anybody else's though I often have in mind the business of my humans and ask Emma to write about it but this I wouldn't normally ask her to write about cos I write about my humans more than myself, but I am doing cos it was worth minding about for dogs and humans. I went out into the garden to do the business every dog has to do in the morning - and at other times - and this happened! And then dear friend Sue Mynall painted it happening so we're sharing with you! It's called Autumn apparently - though if you're American it's called Fall and maybe that's more sensible cos it's leaves falling off the trees but I don't know what Autumn means - and it meant I got covered in leaves of all sorts of different colours and I got blown about too and rained on a bit too and it's still happening so be careful when you go out cos you may get autumned too :) Actually it is sort of fun if it's not raining too much so you don't get too wet and not blowing you too much so you fall over and you can chase the leaves. Emma says it's very pretty and she likes it. It's also cooler so if you don't have a ready-made coat like me that you've grown all by yourself it may be good to put one on.
HAPPY AUTUMN EVERYBODY!

Perfect Pooch Ponderings :)

Just posted this up at amazon.co.uk: "Emma and me wanna tell you about the highly moving and entertaining biodography called 'Nobody's Poodle' of the totally Gorgeous Gizmo aka Snr Giz, who with human mum Nikki Attree runs Wooftastic Books (http://wooftasticbooks.com/) which has books by and about dogs including ours but this is about his one. It is the story of how he travelled from the UK to Tenerife following his then humans, but how so sadly they abandoned him - they had reasons and he was very forgiving but it's still a very horrible thing to do - but how he bravely survived all sorts of adventures and perils, which make you laugh and cry and bark and howl all at the same time and different times too. Giz is a highly intelligent pooch - like me I have to say ;) - with a wonderful wit and sense of the different personalities of his fellow species - that's dogs - who come into his story and make us cheer and growl and yap and do whirly dances in sympathy, sadness, annoyance and joy. Giz is so courageous and though his story will have you on the edge of your seat or biting your paws in concern it all works out fine and we won't spoil it by telling you how except that it has to do with lovely Nikki Attree :).

Sadly too many dogs get abandoned by humans but fortunately so many of them then get adopted by other humans to go live in their furever homes. Dogs love humans unconditionally. Well this dog - me - Ted Terrier - absolutely adores them! Please, humans, read this story and be inspired to do all you can to help and adopt abandoned dogs or support the charities set up to help dogs with no homes to look after them or find new homes. Love, hugs and licks Ted Terrier XOX"

Anyone for Tennis?

When I became the Official Ball Dog at Wimbledon they told me my job was to catch any stray balls and put them into the hand of the human who starts things off my hitting the ball with their racket first. I thought I was doing it better than any of the ball boys or girls but then I got told I was doing it too well and I need to allow the human on the other side of the net to hit the ball with their racket before I chase the ball down. But I have heard many tennis players say chasing down balls is the 'stuff of champions' and that means you are doing very well if you are a Wimbledon Champion!

Ted Queueing the Barbs :)

When the sun comes out mad dogs and Englishmen go out in it at midday so humans say :) Well I am not a mad dog - I'm a very sensible one - but I go out in it and in other weather any time at all though rain often stops me doing it cos the drops of water make me go all shaky. Humans of other nationalities also go out in the sun but mostly not at midday cos they know it is too hot and may make them feel unwell or go mad themselves. For English humans the sun is so rare that they wanna make the most of every last shine of it. And then when it happens they also wanna cook outside and they have barbeques - which doesn't mean queueing for barbs but putting meat, or if you want vegetables but I'd rather have meat, on top of hot coals til it's ready for eating - and they get all excited and invite other humans round to enjoy it with them too. The sun came out last week and so I helped my humans do the barbequeing of sausages - which for some reason get called hot dogs when they get put in buns, which they often do after they've been queued on the barb - cos that's one of the main things they like to barbeque and then I ate some too cos I like them too and I was really the hottest dog! This week it has been raining but I hope we can do mad hot dogs again soon :)
P.S. Emma has just said we spelt barbeque wrong and it is actually barbecue but we got confused cos people make it into a smaller word as BBQ ;)

Review of Uggie, The Artist, My Story by Ted Terrier

Review of Uggie, The Artist, My Story by  Ted Terrier

Following on from my review of Champ’s biodography, me and Emma decided to do another one. I actually feel a little bit jealous cos Emma wanted to read Uggie The Artist’s book so much and the reason I am jealous is that he is also a JRT like me and a film-star not like me and Emma has a thing for film-stars, especially if they sing too which thankfully Uggie doesn’t, and it makes me worry that maybe she will love him more than me. Now the artist – though not the same kind of artist, Sue Mynall – of my books; The Journal of Ted Terrier, The Colour Journal of Ted terrier and soon The Second Journal of Ted Terrier – says I should have been the doggie star of the film The Artist cos I am a superstar myself. I love Sue!! However, Emma says I couldn’t have been cos I’m too naughty and not well-trained enough. Ggggggrrrr to you Emma! How’s that for loyalty of a human sister – or how isn’t it given that it isn’t. But you see when we read Uggie’s book we found out that he was naughty too before he was adopted by acting coach Omar von Muller, and then he was even naughty afterwards now and then. But I do have to admit that he is certainly better trained than me but that is more my humans fault than mine. I am very good at my job without being trained. I have natural talent! So does Uggie! And he is very dedicated too. Maybe that’s also cos he is a JRT. Emma says neither of us are modest. That’s a JRT thing too  Or just a dog thing – some humans do all this silly covering up of their feelings and talents whereas we dogs are just honest about it. I love humans so much and so does Uggie. He met and starred with Reese Witherspoon on the set of Water for Elephants and fell totally in love with her. He tells us all about that in his book as well as what it was like to work with the actual artist in the film called that name, actor Jean Dujardin. They worked very well together and he even won over the director of the film, Michel Hazanavicious, who wasn’t very keen on dogs but even adapted the script to include most of Uggie’s many talents.

Uggie is a natural born entertainer and that comes barkingly shining through in his writing via Wendy Holden. This is a wonderful behind-the-scenes look at the life of a canine star in filmland. The highs and lows of the work and the perks and the struggles of the lifestyle involved. It’s hard work but from Uggie’s point of view so worth doing. Even illness didn’t stop him. Uggie holds nothing back, and all good pawthors gives us his whole life story bones and all the meat on them – including the sausage treats he got given as rewards. A tough life but some dog has to do it, but he also did have a tough life before he Omar became his human father cos he was rejected by his previous parents. As Uggie describes all these life experiences are used in his Method acting as well as the techniques Omar teaches him. Uggie is inspiring in his never-ending enjoyment of the whole experience – some parts of which would really scare me – I wouldn’t have time to leave p-mail on any red carpets cos I’d be running away from the paparazzi and loud noises – but I would love all the fans cos I love all humans and them loving me of course helps. If you’re interested in the movie business you will want to lap and lick this book up. And I’m sure Uggie’s writing will inspire other dogs to go for their dreams in life. With a good human by your side – like me with Emma – and Uggie with Omar – the world can be your bombel cheese or sausage  by  Ted Terrier

Facebooking Friends!

For some time now I have been a dog who journals and then a dog who blogs and then a dog who tweets – even though I’m a dog not a bird – and now I am a dog who facebooks so I put my face up and write as you do in books – even though it’s not really a book it certainly has lots of faces in it - and I go around liking as well as licking everybody! I enjoy it so much that I do a lot of wagging my tail and woofing while I communicate with all of you adorable humans and dogs and dogs with humans and humans with dogs… oh and some cats and some other species too! This pic is to show you how I do it J

And when I make a new friend I whizz around in my whirly greeting dance and have a great big smile on my face and I usually bark-laugh too! And then you can go to parties with dancing and meating and eating and greating and drinking and did I say eating, and clubs where you can read books and make things and show others the things you’ve created even if it’s a mess and even go on explorations for monsters and help raise money for good causes - just as you might in real life - and see all the things your facebook friends are doing every day. And know when their birthdays are and say Happy Birthday and get all their news about the exciting things happening in their lives too! And these friends are all over the world and go to their baskets or beds at different times so whatever time you visit there will always be someone there. And there are just so many of them to love which is great cos I love loving! If you want to be a fellow twit or face then I’m TedTerrierMe at both J

Champ - My Story of Survival - Fiona Ingram

Emma and me wanna tell you about a totally inspiring and heart-breaking yet then heart-warming book we have just read which is the true story of a little dog named Champ - well it's also a gorgeously written work of fiction called "How Superdog Champ Saved the Day" which had us both cheering (Emma), woofing (me) and smiling and all excited, moved and delighted - that's inside it too. Champ was badly abused by some people - in his real life this is - and left for dead in plastic bags, but was then rescued and nursed and dogtored and loved back to life by some other totally amazing people.

Sadly this sort of thing happens to far too many dogs and other animals. In fact it even happens to humans themselves by other humans. Champ's story is inspirational to all of us of whatever species and helps spread the word about these horrific inhumanities, which actually can lead to wonderful acts of support, love and all the best that humans have to offer in their humanity! Yay to that! Dogs love humans unconditionally. Well this dog - me - Ted Terrier - absolutely adores them! Please, humans, read this story and be inspired to do all you can to help stop horribleness to others and make the world a happy place for all species  Love, hugs and licks Ted Terrier XOX

Snack Attack!

Yes, I know, I did put ‘eating less treats’ on my new year’s resolutions but then I crossed it out but not well enough for you not to see that it was on the list and here I am eating them anyway cos I got really hungry and cos they taste very yummy to eat but ‘Ssshhh!’ and please don’t tell Emma cos she might get a bit cross cos I’m supposed to be on a diet cos I have a ‘tubby tum’. But she is funny cos she really likes my tubby tum and when I’m ‘My Scruffy-Puff’ which I’m not really without my tubby tum cos you need to be tubby to go with that look and cos if you’re ‘Mr. SkinnyBones’ then you have no fur and no tubby tum, so really and truly I’m doing something for her by eating these and keeping myself tubby to go with the scruffy J

Crazy Weather!

Over Christmas- and New Year- times the entire world had crazy weather. In America – where my human auntie lives with my human uncle and my many cousins both human, canine, feline and other species – they had cold temperatures that made it so if they went out they might freeze to death on the spot. In the ‘land down under’ – which is underneath according to the people who aren’t there but are on this side of the world – and is actually called Australia, people are trying to play tennis in 45oC temperature  and fainting  and bats have died cos it’s too hot for them. Here In England – and especially in the bit round the river Thames where I live with my human family; they’re all human and I’m a dog – we had rain that could drown you and wind that could blow you over and away and all at once and it was very dangerous to go out, and many people had very wet Christmases with their houses filled up with water and they didn’t have power so they couldn’t cook their Christmas dinners or watch Doctor Who or Eastenders or The Queen making her speech. I think they could still open their presents so long as they weren’t all washed away, and Father Christmas could still visit cos he doesn’t need gas or electricity to visit cos he has reindeer to give his sleigh the power to move. Cars could still move too so long as the water wasn’t too deep and they could do that in the roads that weren’t made into rivers by all the water. Emma’s car could move okay but something on it was moving in a way that was not okay. I have written a story before about it raining in the car cos of the sun-roof that lets rain rather than sun in – well it lets sun in too but Emma never opens it to let sun in cos the sun comes in anyway, and even though she hasn’t opened it it is ‘open to the elements’ as humans say. It shouldn’t be but it is. It’s a fault on the car, which isn’t the cars fault and also isn’t my fault this time. Another fault is that the bonnet doesn’t close properly cos something called the bonnet catch is broken and so the bonnet flaps up and down and if you drive too fast it flaps up so much that it might not flap down again and then it could fly into the windscreen – that does actually screen you from the wind – and then you could have wind and broken glass unscreened from you and going into your face from the broken windscreen and that is very dangerous indeed. I have been Emma’s co-driver as you can see to make sure that doesn’t happen so she can look at what she needs to look at to drive the car safely and then I can bark loudly if it doesn’t flap down again. But we decided it’d be even safer to take it to be fixed, so we got into it to drive it to the garage where they fix cars but it wouldn’t start at all. And we tried again and it wouldn’t, and yet again, but it still wouldn’t and then Emma phoned for an AA man to come – AA men come when cars don’t start at all or have stopped and won’t start again. For anything else you have to take it yourself to be fixed. The AA man was a very nice AA man – they are all supposed to be very nice but some are nicer than others – he started the car very quickly and said it had been flooded with petrol and not water even though with all the water around it could have been water, and then he also said that he would save us driving to the garage with a flapping up and down bonnet and also cos there were many cars on the road getting into trouble cos of the weather so he fixed the bonnet down in just a few minutes, so ours wouldn’t end up being one of them. It is good that one less car goes along the road in an unnecessary journey anyway cos there are too many cars on the road and there are too many other things that humans have made that make fumes and things and have damaged something in the sky and made a hole so that there is damage below that hole and so that’s what causes the crazy weather and one day, if it’s not fixed and it may be too late to fix it, the weather will be so crazy it’s completely mad and then… well then I won’t say cos Emma says my stories usually make people laugh but this one won’t and I should end on a funny note. I am not a note but I am very funny most of the time and will make you smile and the sun shine even on a cloudy day… and if you sing that then you have some funny notes to end on J
